Spotlight on Blocking
Alright, since I’m the only one who does anything around here, I’ll share what I’ve been up to. As everyone knows, there’s a big fight scene at the start of act 3 (a plague on both your houses, and all that).
Because of how the scene is blocked, I would love to put some tape flags down on the stage to show everyone where to stand during the fight and as Mercutio is dragged away at the end, but the actor playing Tybalt keeps looking down at the stage. I figure if I use the spotlights, maybe I’ll keep him from watching his feet all the time?
Benvolio and Mercutio enter from stage left, and Tybalt and his friends come in from the right.

Romeo tries to get between the fighters, and Tybalt sneaks behind him and stabs Mercutio.

Later, Tybalt and Romeo have a short duel, and Tybalt dies. Like I said, he can never find his mark, so I gave him a spotlight to die in. The fool always ends up with his arms spread out at weird angles. I really hope nobody ends up stepping on him.

The rest of the blocking from there is easy enough, and we don’t have to worry about Tybalt screwing anything else up for the rest of the show, so we can go back to standard lighting.
Well, mostly.
Lady Capulet does some big exaggerated sighs and looks up towards the stage lighting. She doesn’t like being blinded by all the bright white lights, so I used whatever gels I could find to help dim the lights, and still keep the stage lit to the point that people aren’t just feeling around outside the spots.
There’s a few lights that are burned out, you can ignore those… the rest should make up for them.
